GET YOUR WINTER SHORTS ON

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

blog

Seattle in the winter: what comes to mind? Misty cold, gray skies, layers — not shorts, right? Wrong.

Inspired by last summer’s very successful MadArt event, and to celebrate the launch of our new subscription service, IndieFlix is launching its MadFlix series of free screenings and refreshments at 6pm this Thursday, December 3, 2009. We’ll be showing three short films and serving up wine, beer, and various snacks and hors d’oeuvres at the Madison Park Starbucks, 4000 E. Madison Street in Seattle.

It promises to be quite an evening: we’re going to have a chance to sample a nice little wine called Magito, supplied for the event by Meadowcroft, a California winery. I can personally attest* that this alone is reason to attend. On top of that, Seattle’s Magnolia AV will be installing its fanciest, most unaffordable, top-of-the-line equipment to showcase the films. This might be your best chance to see how the other half watches. And beer and hors d’oeuvres are being supplied by local businesses La Panzanella Bakery, Beecher’s Cheeses, and McGilvra’s Restaurant and Bar.

The entire event is free. No, seriously, free. PLUS we’re giving away some cool stuff — films, subscriptions, various swag. And stick around after: we’re moving the party down the street to McGilvra’s, 4234 E. Madison.

In the spirit of the season we’ll be collecting donations for Northwest Harvest: food, household items, baby supplies, all very much needed this time of the year.

Come and drink with us! Watch — I mean watch, come and watch with us.

Hot Rod Monsters Film Festival Seattle, WA July 18-19 Check It Out!

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

HRMMFFPressreleaseb

Have you ever felt like there aren’t enough pinups, hotrods, zombies and beer at film festivals? Then maybe you should check out the Hot Rod and Monster Film Festival this weekend, July 18th and 19th at the 911 Media Arts Center in downtown Seattle.

The event is sponsored by Go-Kustom Rekords, Ol Skool Rodz, Car Kulture Deluxe, The Pin-Up Angels and The Rat Bastards Car Club. It’s their first film festival and is described as “a working class film celebration of grease, ink and iron.”

The beautiful Pin-Up Angels will be hosting the event and acting as official usherettes, selling beer and concessions during the festival. The Pin-Up Angels are a non-profit group that sends care packages to US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. All donations will go to their cause.

Event Registrar D.A. Sebasstian says the festival will have “car-show feel” and hopes to bring people together who love iconic kustom kulture – for the non-greaser that means anything ‘50s. For a bit of spice, zombies were thrown in the mix. And who doesn’t love zombies?

“During the selection process local films went to the top of the list, I was surprised at the high number of submissions we had – considering it’s our first festival,” Sebasstian. “We also tried to make an interesting mixture of films. One block might be zombie shorts with a hot rod documentary; another might be a chopper film with Rockabilly music videos. The last block on Sunday night is all zombies!”

Among the 8 features screening at the festival are the Seattle premieres of “Hot Rod Girls Save The World,” “Choppertown: The Sinners, Hot Rod Havoc” and “The Road To.” Also playing is the lo-fi zombie extravaganza RetarDEAD, directed by Rick Popko and Dan West, featuring Dead Kennedy’s singer Jello Biafra as the Mayor of San Francisco.

The festival is laid out in six two hour blocks over two days with each block containing a mixture of feature films, shorts and music videos. The cost for a 2 hour block is $10 per person. Local radio station KGRG will be on hand to keep the party going.

The 911 Media Arts Center is located at 402 9th Ave. North, Seattle WA 98109, on the corner of 9th and Republican, in the same building as SIFF headquarters.

To learn more about the festival, please visit the 2009 Hot Rod Monsters Film Festival Official Website at www.hotrodmonstersfilmfest.com. It’s sure to be an absolute blast and we can’t wait to hear how it goes! If you’re out this weekend at the Bite of Seattle or just enjoying the nice weather, please come and support your local filmmakers!

SEATTLE, WA – May 18, 2009 – Washington-based entertainment production company Building Block Pictures LLC, in conjunction with Washington-based distributor Indieflix Inc, is releasing the multi-award-winning feature “Perfect Sport” on DVD on Tuesday May 19 2009 after a successful festival run.

Writer-director Anthony O’Brien stars in the teen sports drama, alongside Jessica Rose (Lonelygirl15, Greek) and Gary Hudson (Roadhouse, Paradise Falls). “Perfect Sport” won Best Picture at both Worldfest Houston 2008 and MyFestival 2008, and also the Audience Award at both the Seattle International Film Festival 2008 and the National Film Festival For Talented Youth (NFFTY) 2009, where it received a standing ovation.

This is not your average teen movie, and Lee Bishop (Anthony O’Brien) does not have the same problems as your average teenager. When his mother leaves for Iraq, Lee is forced to grow up quickly. As though maintaining his varsity spot on the wrestling team wasn’t enough to deal with, his younger sister Tina (Jessica Rose) decides to join the team. In addition Tina is being aggressively pursued by an upperclassman and since their father is out of the picture, Lee feels he is her only defense against the corrupting influences around her.

Enter Joe Kross (Gary Hudson), the owner of a local gym, who agrees to help coach the wrestling team. Because Lee is without guidance, Joe’s increasing influence threatens to push Lee over the precipice. Lee must decide how far he is willing to go to secure his own future while protecting his sister – all before personal demons, and an act of sexual violence threaten to destroy him. With standout performances by Gary Hudson, Jessica Rose, Nick Richey, Anthony O’Brien and Jim Turner, Perfect Sport will make you question – how far would you be willing to go?

Perfect Sport is available on DVD and video on demand at IndieFlix and Amazon. The award-nominated soundtrack by Tim Borquez is available on iTunes and Amazon MP3.

New Film “Fast Friday” Trailer!

Here is the trailer for the new film “Fast Friday” now available on IndieFlix.com.  Click the poster above to purchase the DVD or stream on your computer!

Film Description

Director David Rowe documents the emergence of the prolific track bike scene in Seattle Washington. Started by Cadence Clothing founder and fixed-gear rider Dustin Klein, the monthly cycling event known as “Fast Friday” has grown into a showcase of today’s most talented riders.

Director’s Statement

Faced with creating a story out of 30 hours of aimless footage I nearly gave up, until I decided to focus on the event’s ability to bring people together, instead of telling individual stories of the participants. If I could do it all again I would absolutely focus more on the riders involved to tell a far more interesting tale. Nevertheless I did what I could to create an accurate portrayal of the event that has brought so many cyclists together. This movie has been my real life film school. I’ve learned a thousand things along the way, and would have done everything different if I had known what I was doing in the beginning, having never edited anything longer than 3 minutes before this, I am quite self -conscious of showing my first effort. I feel like a child whose finger paintings are getting their first gallery exhibit. In the end, if I’ve made a film those involved with will enjoy, then I’ll be content, but if others outside the bicycle scene enjoy it too, then I’m one step closer to a career as a feature filmmaker.

Hello everyone,

Our friends over at TheFilmSchool in Seattle have their spring 3-week intensive program rapidly approaching! Read below for more details everyone. Thanks! Christopher McQuarrie (the writer of “Valkyrie” and “The Usual Suspects”) called TheFilmSchool ‘probably the best place to learn story.”

One thing you might mention is that the Spring Session of the 3-week intensive is approaching, the session runs from April 4 – April 25, and the deadline for submissions is March 27.  There are a limited number of scholarships available.  Our website is www.thefilmschool.com — this 3-week-session is the school’s most unique program, kind of a screenwriting bootcamp.
