Documentary:

Searching for Angela Shelton: In the award-winning documentary, filmmaker Angela Shelton drives around the United States, meeting other Angela Sheltons. She discovers that 24 out of the 40 Angela Sheltons she spoke to had been survivors of rape, childhood sexual abuse and/or domestic violence. (The number jumped to 28 out of 40 when 4 more Angelas broke their silence after the movie was finished.) Then the filmmaker meets an Angela Shelton who tracks sexual predators and lives in the same town as the filmmaker’s father who molested her and her step siblings for years. Angela Shelton’s survey of women becomes a journey of self-discovery when she decides to confront her own past and her father – on Father’s Day. The Angela Sheltons complete the journey by teaching the filmmaker about forgiveness, faith and the power of the human spirit, no matter what your name is. If 70% of the Angela Shelton’s had been victims of abuse, what does that say about women in general? Angela Shelton could have picked any name.

But the ecosystem is deteriorating, human impact destroys their habitat and the Monarchs suddenly find themselves in danger. In an ultra-light plane decorated as a Monarch butterfly Vico Gutierrez and a small crew of film makers and environmentalists made the same journey with the goal of increasing awareness about the challenges that the Monarchs face on their astonishing migration. The result – the documentary “Papalotzin” directed by Gregory Allen – is a high-flying road movie showing incredible aerial footage of Canada, the US and Mexico. Papalotzin tracks one man’s dream as he crosses the North-American continent, and meets passionate people who have dedicated their lives to the conservation of the butterfly’s migration. Most Likely To

12385Most Likely To: Ben, Josh, Adam, Lindsay and Jordie used to be the best of friends. Now they hardly know each other at all. Having not seen each other since high school graduation, they reunite when Ben has a chance opportunity to throw a party at his boss’s downtown apartment. Though life has led each of them on significantly different paths, they do their best to try and hold onto their old connection despite the secrets they keep from one another. No sooner has the group finally come together when a shocking discovery is made that tests both their friendships and their morality. Following many of the principles of the restrictive Danish Dogme 95 filmmaking style, Most Likely To was made with its own unique rule of three’s: shot in three days with three cameras, three takes per scene, for a total of three thousand dollars. Shot at an actual party with real people interacting with the actors, it’s a party you won’t want to miss.

Interrogate This- Psychologists Take On Terror: Most are unaware that psychologists had any role in interrogations of US national security detainees. This is a truly human story probing the heart of the debate amongst members of the world’s largest professional organization for psychologists: The American Psychological Association. Exclusive interviews, animation, contemporary and archival military footage, chronicle the evolution of a complex controversy plaguing this group-and the nation-since the capture and detention of suspected terrorists. Dissident psychologists dispute the ethics of mental health consultants working with interrogators in sites associated with human rights violations. Proponents of continued engagement, most with experience at Guantanamo and Iraq, support continued participation, ensuring the mental health of detainees and interrogators and to lend their skills in assessment and prevention of violence. The film reflects the complications associated with ethics, morality and national security.

Documentary:

The Extraordinary Voyages of Jules Verne: The fantastic tales of adventure penned over a hundred years ago by Jules Verne still live in the minds and hearts of millions. Futuristic concepts and legendary heroes mix with visions of a utopian world and crazed madmen, and yet, this incredible legacy is still misunderstood and misinterpreted. Hundreds of writers have tried desperately to analyze the writings of Jules Verne, claiming on the one hand that there is an underlying sexual message, on the other that he is guiding us towards some hidden and lost treasure. But what is the truth? Were these highly successful stories simply great works of fiction? Or do they really hold a message for us today? In this film, we dissect the most famous of tales and discover the truth. From “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” to “Around the World in Eighty Days,” from “The Mysterious Island” to “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” this film scrutinizes both the author and the meaning of his work.

They’re on the road to a powwow, but each is on his own personal journey. Unable to overcome grief since the death of his mother, Dean won’t participate in the traditional dances he once loved. Tired of being the screw-up with a big heart, Joey learns that he must rely on his own strengths. And always the hothead, Mark learns to overcome his prejudices and face his own identity. When the guys unwillingly meet up with a wayward party girl, they get stranded on a lonely, deserted road in Kansas, where the sun is as unforgiving as their circumstances. When tragedy strikes, Dean is forced to confront his fears and follow his heart home — to the powwow world. “Dancing on the Moon” honors the human spirit. It celebrates the power to be who we are. But, most of all, the power to believe in ourselves.
