One Man’s Walk
A window on the wonderful world of Kenneth Mitchell: his brother, friends and favorite things… A boy walks down a street. We do not see his face. He is the event but we don’t know why. He tells us his likes and dislikes as he passes through the streets of his town. Finally we see his face and understand.
The film was the idea of Kenneth’s brother, Nicholas. Kenneth has Down’s Syndrome and communication difficulties. Through the telling of his story, Kenneth’s apparent handicap was turned around and he became the star of his own film.
One Man’s Walk was a collaborative production between a group of 10 mixed ability young people from a variety of backgrounds.
First Light is the UK’s leading initiative enabling young people aged 5-19 to realize their potential via creative digital film and media projects. The films and media projects our young people create cover many topics and genres, and make use of today’s accessible digital technologies to tell their stories with them in control.
